Bethel 02/11/2024 Service

This seems an appropriate time to look at this moment in Bethel's past as Mike passed away on February 1 and a Celebration of Life service was held yesterday at Dick Howser Stadium.
Nancy Stiles, daughter-in-law of Bethel's pastor Barbara Stiles, worked in the FSU sports department and asked Mike Martin to speak at Bethel's Homecoming service on Oct 10,1993, which was near the mid-point of what would become a 40-year career as FSU head baseball coach. In this recording Barbara introduces him, Don Singletary reads a chosen scripture, and Mike Martin speaks of his faith.

Two services are provided for this time between the Season After Epiphany and the Season of Lent. The first, today, is for the last Sunday of the Season After Epiphany...the second is for Ash Wednesday which begins the Season of Lent. This Service's Theme: "Crossing Over"
Here we are, once again, at the cusp of a change in the season. Sometimes we treat Transfiguration as if it's the last Sunday in the season after Epiphany, a kind of exclamation point to the Ordinary Time that takes us from Epiphany to Ash Wednesday. But this year, we chose to make this a stand-alone Sunday, which is appropriate given that this day belongs not to Ordinary Time or Lent but in the liminal space between the two.
